It is a PC based facility, which
runs in background, enabling faxes created by application programs running on Unix,
Linux or DOS, to be combined with a background image and sent via a PC based faxing package.
The background images are held as bitmap (.bmp) files, which could be logos,
pictures, diagrams or form layouts for fax headers, Purchase Orders etc.
Faxing
operates by scanning a designated directory for fax transaction files.
These are text files created by Unix, Linux or DOS programs, which contain the body
of the fax to be sent, the location of background bit maps and the relevant contact details.
Each fax image is compiled and sent, via the PC faxing package.
Following processing the details of the fax are logged (if logging is specified)
and the fax text file is deleted.
Faxing
can be set-up to run automatically at a fixed time interval,
which is tailorable via the 'configure' screen.
There are many types of document that may be sent in this way including Purchase Orders,
Customer Statements, etc. Of course, your server applications need to have functions
that will create the fax text to be sent.
Typical example of Faxing in use. You want to send purchase orders to certain suppliers
via fax and these are created by your Unix server based Purchase Order Processing system.
A document image is created using Word or some other PC package and saved as a bit map image
(this only has to be done when you fist set up or change the Purchase Order layout).
Faxing finds the new fax texts and images and sends these via the PC faxing package.
